Beer Reviews News TapHunter.com Updates — 03 December 2010

We proudly present the official TapHunter 1st place winner of the San Diego Favorite Brewery Awards. Honoring the best.

1st Place –AleSmith Brewing Company

All San Diego County Breweries and Brew Pubs competed in the voting process between October 25th – November 24th by posting out to their fans via email, social media and San Diego Beer Week events.

AleSmith’s brewmaster, Peter Zien, is a BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) “Grand Master level 1″ beer judge, the only one in San Diego County. He purchased the brewery in 2002 from the original founder and brewmaster, Skip Virgilio.

The New York Times recently performed a blind taste test of 20 different Belgian and Belgian-style golden ales, and AleSmith’s Horny Devil placed third, amidst some very stiff competition.

Mayor Jerry Sanders recently quoted the San Diego Craft Brew industry, “It’s unbelievable what comes out of San Diego in terms of the beer world,” Sanders said. “It’s like one of the clusters we have. It’s like biotech and hi-tech and now we’ve got brew-tech. It’s great to have a cluster of innovative people making beer.”
