Events — 09 September 2010

As GABF excitement builds around Denver, it feels like September 16th
just can’t come soon enough.  Lucky for us, Denver Beer Fest (formerly
known as Denver Beer Week) will be in full swing starting September
10th to keep the beer lovers busy until the Convention Center doors
open for GABF.  There are a ridiculous amount of events going on (see
a full list at http://www.denver.org/denverbeerfest/), but here are my
picks for the most exciting thing going on each night before GABF:

September 10th – Brew at the Zoo
You thought beer was a good cause in itself, but it’s also
occasionally used to raise money for other things that we love.  The
Denver Zoo’s annual fundraiser features over 40 Colorado breweries and
local music.  $65; 7pm; http://www.denverzoo.org/brew/

September 11th – The Great “COntenders”
The Wynkoop is hosting a gathering of Colorado brewers that have won
GABF medals in the past and others that hope to win this year.  The
Wynkoop throws some pretty awesome beer events; I would imagine that
there will be at least a few special brews here that you won’t find
anywhere else.  $25; 5pm; http://www.wynkoop.com

September 12th – Strange Brewery Brunch at Steuben’s
Chefs Biederman and Selby have prepared a 5-course brunch, paired with
beers from Strange Brewing’s Tim Myers.  Strange Brewing just opened
this summer and is small enough that their beers don’t leave the
brewery all that often, so this is a great opportunity to try some
fresh new brews.  $40; 10am; http://www.steubens.com;

September 13th – Beer and Cheese Pairings at Root Down
Beer.  Cheese.  I’m in.  To sweeten the pot even further, Boulder Beer
will be bringing a special oak-aged Mojo IPA.  (Mojo is my personal
definition of the perfect IPA, by the way.)  No cover; 5pm;

September 14th – City O’ City Home Brew Competition
Is your home brew good enough to win an award?  Find out at City O’
City, where a five-person panel using certified judging criteria will
make or break your latest creation.  Stick around for happy hour
prices all night long on Left Hand brews.  Free; 6pm;

September 15th – “Can Can Girls Beer Club”
A six-course menu awaits any beer-loving ladies willing to venture to
the Oskar Blues Brewery.  Pairings will include brews from Oskar Blues
and Left Hand.  A shuttle from downtown Denver is available, but seats
are limited.  $75; 6:30pm; http://www.denvergourmettours.com/
