Sour lovers go bananas each year for Tomme Arthur’s seasonal, award-winning Flanders Red that’s made with sour cherries and aged for a year in French oak barrels. Red Poppy Ale (5%abv) is more tart and fruit juicy than what you’d expect from this style of beer, versus, say, Duchesse De Bourgogne or Rodenbach Grand Cru. Named after the fiery-red springtime flowers in Northern Belgium, Red Poppy is lightly carbonated, refreshing to drink, and named one of Draft Magazine’s Top 10 Cherry Beers (2010), among other accolades.

This Friday at 5pm, Downtown Johnny Brown’s is pouring what might be your last chance to drink this beer in 2011. The 3rd annual Bitter and Sour Night, appropriately on tax day, celebrates some of the best IPAs and sour ales from the around the world. We hope to see you there.
